They are seeking redress from widespread PCB contamination in VT schools. This follows a suit by the state Attorney General and suits filed late last year by former Burlington school staff (re: PCB exposure) and the school district (re: high school being forced to close their building in 2020 due to extensive contamination). Monsanto/Bayer lawyers claim VT standards are too strict and that it’s also just not their fault:

This follows 2 lawsuits in Burlington focused on contamination of the high school there. This one focuses on VT schools and also widespread contamination of the Lake Champlain basin. Monsanto/Bayer’s response is the usual one: “officials chose to use PCBs in the past, so it’s not our fault.”
